rolled up in chickpea flour with a combination of chutney filled pav is surely mouthwatering.
Although Vada Pav was already famous, the couple who made it popular fast foods
like burger are Dheeraj Gupta and his wife Reeta Gupta. The couple started
Jumbo King which served the humble vada pav at a slighter bigger size.
Established in 2001, the company was inspired by
business model of McDonalds and Burger King. Starting its beginnings in Malad,
Mumbai, its franchises were opened all over Mumbai with other locations like
Bangalore, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow, Aurangabad and Gujarat. The story behind
Jumbo King is interesting. The couple visited London and saw Burger King
franchises after which they realized that this kind of fast food chain could
work in India. Vada Pav was their first idea as it was convenient. The Malad
outlet was earlier Chaat factory. However, later it was renamed as Jumbo King.
The difference between other street vendors selling Vada Pav and Jumbo King was
hygiene. Their USP was to make and sell Vada Pav at hygienic conditions and
give a cult status to the otherwise humble street food of Maharashtra.
